Let us welcome you to a virtual visit of Shadowbrook Farm…a truly unique and blessed place.

We have been graced by the presence of miniature donkeys for almost 6 years.  I have owned horses for most of my life and although I have always had a fascination with donkeys, I had never had an opportunity to become personally acquainted with these blessed creatures.  In 1995 I purchased a male standard donkey at an auction and was completely charmed.  My husband and I decided to try and find a female in order to breed them, but there were no standards to be found in our area; however, I did find an ad for miniature donkeys.  I had never heard of such a creature, but my curiosity got the best of me and we went to take a look.  Well…..we came home with 4 that day, a young jack and 3 jennies and here we are 6 years later with over 20 and still just as in love with them as the first day we made their acquaintance.

Almost invariably, the first question that I am asked by visitors is, “what do you do with them.”  Donkeys serve as wonderful companions for horses.  They can be kept on a very small parcel of land which makes them ideal for those “just too large to mow” lawns.  Donkeys are very intelligent and easily trained.  They are wonderful for folks with disabilities and now are trained in parts of the U.S. for Seeing Eye companions.  They are very healthy and hearty creatures, and require very little in the way of vetting.  Their average lifespan is 40 years.

All my young donkeys are imprinted at birth, and are registered with the American Donkey and Mule Society.  Generally, I have foals arriving year round and have foals and breeding stock available for sale.
